Ross Twyman’s third place in the British Supersport Sprint race was the highlight of a satisfactory Easter weekend at Donington Park for the Supersport side of the EHA Racing garage; the event acting as the curtain-raiser to the 2018 British championship season in perilous conditions.
Twyman started from the middle of the second row in fifth place aboard his EHA Racing Yamaha YZF-R6, with his team-mate David Allingham just one row further behind. With the leading duo gapping the field early on, Twyman got embroiled in a race-long battle for the final podium positon, making the decisive move on lap six of eight, to record a well-deserved third place at the Leicestershire venue. Allingham recovered from eleventh at the end of lap one to take nine valuable championship points in seventh place.
In today’s Easter Monday feature Supersport race, David Allingham took fifth place and Ross Twyman eighth. Allingham holds sixth place in the championship standings leaving round one and Twyman is two positions higher in fourth.
‘I’m obviously delighted to have started the season with a podium for the EHA Racing team, as it’s a real confidence booster for me, and a big reward for the team effort on the run up to, and including round one. The weather made things difficult at Donington and while it’s the same for everyone, it does make it tough all round. We need to build on this and look to get out of the traps a little quicker in future rounds so we can run with the pace-setters at the front, but overall I’m pretty happy with my first weekend of the season.”
“I’m happy enough. We had a few little problems – nothing major – and I made a few mistakes myself in those conditions, but the plan is to make that my worst weekend of the season, so I’m still smiling. The boys did a good job in conditions that were far from perfect all weekend, but the positives are: we’ve come away with two points’ scoring finishes and have learned even more about the new EHA Racing YZF-R6 Yamaha. I’m confident we can challenge for those podiums at Brands.”
Gail Allingham – Team Manager:
“Ross had a great podium on Sunday and that’s the confidence booster he needs coming into a new season. Race two today didn’t go quite to plan for him, but he stayed upright and brought his EHA Racing machine home for some solid points. David was a little unfortunate in Sunday’s race having made a strong start, but was lifted in the early exchanges by another rider, and was subsequently left with quite a bit of work to do, but he put in a strong effort. Today he didn’t quite have the podium pace but fifth place is no disgrace and he is leaving Donington in a positive frame of mind.”
The next round of the British Supersport Championship takes place at Brands Hatch on April 13/14/15. For more information on EHA Racing please contact firstname.lastname@example.org
