Joe Collier’s fifth place aboard the In Competition prepared EHA Racing RSV4 RF earlier today at Cadwell Park, was enough to help the Leicestershire rider close the gap at the top of the Pirelli National 1000cc Superstock Championship table to just eight points.
Collier worked tirelessly during free practice and qualifying, in an attempt to discover the perfect set-up, that would hopefully allow him to challenge for the podium positions today. But despite starting from the second row of the grid in today’s outing, it was a case of settling for a strong fifth placed points’ scoring finish.
Taking the positives from today: Joe’s patience and forward thinking attitude certainly paid off, especially with some of his rivals failing to score, which sets the EHA Racing mounted series rookie up well, for the remaining rounds at Silverstone, Oulton Park and Brands Hatch in September and October.
Speaking of the weekend, Collier said: “We have to be honest and say that we were frustratingly off the front three pace this weekend from the get-go. We made progress as we always do, but it wasn’t quite enough to challenge for the podium positions. It happens.
To say it was a bad weekend would be unfair, as we are now even closer to the championship lead leaving here than we were arriving. Yes I want to be winning races and at the very least banging in some podiums, but the tracks that are left this year are generally very good for me, so the plan is to be on it at them all. I would really liked to have chased Olsen back down for that fourth spot but I was already tucking the front here and there and it wasn’t worth the risk or the penalty that others have paid this weekend. Thanks to the whole team as always for the big effort.”
Gail Allingham – Team Manager:
“Cadwell Park is a unique little circuit on the calendar and there’s little margin for error, so to come away from here with our bike intact, and enough points to close the gap at the top of the championship table, is satisfying enough. Collectively our goal is to be challenging right at the front for those wins, but Joe is smart enough to grab as many points as possible when the podium positions are not available on a given weekend. It’s this cool head and mature attitude that has him right in the title hunt with just three rounds remaining. We can go these rounds in a positive frame of mind, knowing they suit the EHA Racing Aprilia and also some of Joe’s favourite tracks.”
