Joe Collier took fourth place in today’s Pirelli National 1000cc Superstock race at Oulton Park with EHA Racing, cementing the class rookie’s top three position in this year’s championship standings with just one round remaining.
Collier openly struggled to find the optimum set-up aboard the In Competition prepared RSV4 RF Aprilia during Saturday’s free practice and qualifying sessions, but all it took was a small mistake in race one for him to show his tangible racing pedigree. The 23-year-old burst through from twenty-first place on lap one to take an honourable seventh place at the chequered flag.
That offered him an improved row three grid spot for Sunday’s second race, where he gave everything in pursuit of a top three finish; only narrowly missing out.
Speaking of his weekend, Collier said: “Saturday wasn’t ideal but it put some fire in my belly for today and I’m just disappointed that we were not able to grab the final podium spot on the EHA Racing Aprilia.
“When Mackenzie came past me I did everything I could, but I’d used the best of my tyre and it was frustrating watching him pull a small gap. I just couldn’t do anything about it. It’s been one of those weekends for us, but it’s ended on a more positive note than it started. As always, the effort from the team was first class and I’ve had a great season with EHA Racing. The goal is to go to Brands now and try and finish the season in style with no pressure. Third in the championship is secure and depending on results we could even sneak second.”
Team Manager Gail Allingham said: “This was a difficult weekend for Joe but he recovered well on Sunday and made a great effort at challenging for a podium. He’s mathematically out of the championship challenge now, but as a rookie in the class, he has put up a great fight against two very experienced British championship competitors in Farmer and McConnell. He can now go to Brands Hatch for the final race of the season with no pressure and look to grab another podium to close out a very successful debut season on the EHA Racing Aprilia.”
